There are more crises going on in our world than there has ever been. The Bible tells us we can have confidence in a chaotic world. The only stabilizer in unstable times is the very thing that never changes, the Word of God.
It would be an understatement to call this recent Presidential election a watershed cultural moment in our country’s history. No matter who you voted for, or whether you voted at all, it’s important to remember that as President-Elect, Barack Obama, will have God-given authority to govern us, and that we should view him as a servant of God (Rom. 13:1, 4; cf 1 Pet. 2:13-14).
- We are to pray for Barack Obama (1 Tim. 2:1-2).
- We are to thank God for Barack Obama (1 Tim. 2:1-2).
- We are to respect Barack Obama (Rom. 13:7).
- We are to honor Barack Obama (Rom. 13:7; 1 Pet. 2:17).
We are not to make crude remarks or deny him the authority that God has given him, but we are also not to buckle under pressure when it comes to standing on God’s Word, yes, even under pressure if it gets greater! Barack Obama has agendas in the area of abortion and gay rights that are inconsistent with Biblical views. We have a responsibility to stand firm in our convictions and not roll over just because the cause of God’s Word is being ignored.
In 2 Timothy 4, Paul reveals anurgency in his instruction to Timothy.
1 Before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and by His apprearing and His kingdom, I solemnly charge you; 2 proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenienct or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will accumulate techers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new.
