Why is that, generally speaking, men like to turn everything into a copmpetition? Whether it’s the way God wired us or society influences us, we have to deal with it. I’ve noticed even with our boys, I still like to “win” (whether it’s wrestling, playing, or climbing trees). Recently, I saw Trey climbing a tree and couldn’t be outdone; so I scurried up the tree above him only to realize he wasn’t thinking competition but rather cooperation, something I should have already seen. While preaching on this during my Father’s Day message, I shared this picture to illustrate this principle. God is looking for men who put cooperation before competition (Paul describes Epaphroditus this way in Philippians 2:25).
