Truth or Fiction

There is a tale told of that great English actor Macready. An eminent preacher once said to him: “I wish you would explain to me something.” “Well, what is it? I don’t know that I can explain anything to a preacher.” “What … is the reason for the difference between you and me? You are appearing before crowds night after night with fiction, and the crowds come wherever you go. I am preaching the essential and unchangeable truth, and I am not getting any crowd at all.” Macready’s answer was this: “This is quite simple. I can tell you the difference between us. I present my fiction as though it were truth; you present your truth as though it were fiction.”
I’m so excited that my good friend Dr. Gary Frazier is preaching this coming Sunday at Mobberly, in my absence. His message, R U Ready is such a profound yet simplistic truth so needed in our churches today. I’m thankful for preachers like him who stand for the Truth, teach the Truth, and live the Truth. There’s the old saying, “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.”  What do people in your life know that you stand for?  If I were to talk to your business associates what would people say, “that person has convictions about  ….”  What do you stand for?  Football?  Whatever team you like?  Do they know any more than that about your life?  The temptation today is to be half-committed to a bunch of things, rather than 100% committed to the things that really count. God is looking for Lives who put character before conformity.
